You saw it in The Victor Data Book.Where did I see a picture of the opening of the ritzy Victor flagship store in New York on Fifth Avenue where they had a window display featuring Caruso and this machine? It was was loaned to them by Dorothy Caruso...this being after the singer's death. I'm sure I didn't dream this...![]()

I had thought that Dorothy owned that machine after his death. I had the vaguest recollection of picking up on that little factoid somewhere, but not in the Victor Data Book.

Silvertone! That's great! It's comforting to know that I haven't started hallucinating photographs of old phonos.Silvertone wrote:You saw it in The Victor Data Book.Where did I see a picture of the opening of the ritzy Victor flagship store in New York on Fifth Avenue where they had a window display featuring Caruso and this machine? I was wondering if it's possibile that Victrola could be in Italy...?
Naples rejected Caruso, by my knowledges: italians - me, too - how silly sometimes they (...er, we) are!

At the risk of beating this topic to death, I got on the Bain Collection site and found several more pics from the same photo shoot. This one is good. I was hoping to find a better copy of the one I scanned from The Fabulous Phonograph, but it was not to be. What do you suppose is sitting in the horn, the index file?

I doubt Caruso listened to records very much. If there are any records in there, they're probably all his.
