Walnut VV-220 with Mahogany Record Shelves?

Post by CDBPDX »

I saw a picture of a walnut cabinet VV-220 with what appeared to be dark mahogany record shelves. Anybody know if this is normal? Wouldn't Victor have installed walnut record shelves, too..??

Thanks!

No, actually. Those sheleves were typically made of different "cheap" wood, like Poplar or Birch and stained to match. I think Victor used what was on hand, especially on a 220 which likely wasn't a big seller in Walnut, so this probably got Mahogany stained shelves installed. I have a VV-400 that was completely destroyed long before I got it. I trashed the main cabinet last week and the shelves in it were actually nearly black and it looked completely factory to me, although I've never seen others quite like that before!

All-in-all, it looks to be in pretty nice condition.

Finally got the motor and reproducer worked over. Watch it play on YouTube:

Be sure to turn down your volume - I downloaded this video directly from my phone and the volume is up there. Sorry -
