CAPS Sale 2014

Post by Jerry B. »

Stan S. and I drove to the CAPS sale. I enjoyed it very much selling three of the five machines I took. Stan sold three of the four he took. My returning treasure was an after market mahogany horn with a Columbia end. Stan bought the nicest black Gem horn I've ever seen as well as some very early brown wax cylinders. Every show is a little different and this year it seemed heavy into record dealers.

Here are some more photos. The greater Los Angeles area is such a great vacation destination. We didn't have time to do much because of the sale but we did tour the Queen Mary and went to a Dodgers vs Angeles baseball game. The open house at the Oliphants is beyond description. Of course there is the traffic. It was three hours each way between Buena Park and the Oliphants but worth it. Jerry

Thanks, Jerry, for the nice photos. We are headed to Connecticut in September to visit relatives and plan to include a stop at the show in Danbury, Connecticut on September 6.

Is anyone else planning to be at the Danbury show?

I would like to have had a shot at the Col BGT but the asking price did not reflect the condition of the metal parts. All the machines on that table had horrible green looking metal pieces. I wonder what type of environment they suffered. Jerry

Nice pictures, Jerry. I liked the shots of the Queen Mary. During WW II, the Queen Mary was a troop ship. My Father was on-board to and from Europe when he was sent overseas, during the War. I wonder what caused the weird discoloration on the parts of the BGT.

Thanks for the pictures.

About 40 years ago when I lived in San Diego I used to enjoy going to eat at a restaurant named Lord Nelson's on the Queen Mary. Excellent prime rib then. I hope the ship is holding up well.

I visited the Queen Mary and the Spruce Goose in 1987.
Hmmmm... I think Jerry was sitting in the same deck chair when I was there.

Does anyone know if there is a link anywhere to John Levin's complete demonstration of his new cylinder playback system?
