A trip back in time with my VV-50 portable

I was off work this week so I took a trip out to the Georgian Inn of Somerset where I spent a couple nights. The inn was originally a mansion built in 1915 for Daniel B. Zimmerman, one of the local tycoons back in the day. Most of the building is still original to 1915, making it an interesting place to stay. I was sure to pack the necessities for the trip, such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, and of course my VV-50!

Relaxing to some 78s in the solarium, a small sun room off the main dining hall. There was nobody around so it felt as though I owned the place, lol. This room was used for breakfast and afternoon tea during the day.

I stayed in two different rooms over two nights, here is where I spent the first night. This was actually Daniel Zimmerman's bedroom back in 1915. The room is almost completely original (except for the furniture) and combined with the music of my Victrola I thought I had gone back in time! There is a towel stuffed in the VV-50's horn so that it doesn't wake up the other guests.

Here is where I stayed the second night, one of the servant rooms. This room was authentic except for a big ugly TV on the dresser table. I covered the TV with one of the extra blankets so I couldn't see it, lol. Of course the best way to make a small room cozy is to add a Victrola!

Now that the whole world knows about that rogue water bottle, I wonder whether the producers will be able to edit it out before the new series is aired.

I have trouble finding antique boaters; our great-grandfathers apparently were rarely Size 7 ¾ to 8, like my huge head. The new ones just don't look right, to me .

I actually got that picture of the building from their web page, my own picture was even worse showing a parking lot full of modern cars.

I have trouble finding antique boaters; our great-grandfathers apparently were rarely Size 7 ¾ to 8, like my huge head. The new ones just don't look right, to me .

I am still looking for an antique boater too, the one I have now is a new one made by SCALA and the straw weave is too heavy. In the mean time I might replace the navy/red stripe band with a solid black band for a more appropriate vintage look- the stripe looks too barbershop quartet-like in my opinion.
