Mahogany Standard

Post by gemering »

I was fortunate to pick up this Standard with repro black and brass horn on Craigslist for a very fair price.
I could tell immediately that the machine was refinished with new decal.
I am curious if whomever refinished the case stained the wood mahogany over what was originally oak, or was this machine originally mahogany?
Thank you to all of the experts that reply.
Have a great day!
Gene

Nice machine, Gene! Very certainly mahogany. Did it come with a lid? Can you tell me the serial number and last patent date? Don't see too many of these...

Here's a photo of the serial #.
The machine did come with a lid.
Let me know if you'd like a photo.
Best,

It was also pointed out in another TMF tread (following the restoration of a mahogany Home case) that mahogany Edison cabinets had small studs/brads at the corners of the bedplate frame...which are present here. Congratulations on a nice find!
