Re: Mahogany (or Imitation Mahogany) Standard???
Treat it gently- one reason for the scarcity of Edison'd mahogany cabinets (besides the additional cost) is that with age the wood tends to split if stressed.

Re: Mahogany (or Imitation Mahogany) Standard???
Judging by the metal pins on top of the case lid, I'd tend to agree, that Yes, It is Mahogany, But It does look that someone re-did the outside of the case as evidenced by the Edison decal area as you can plainly see the original decal placement behind it. Nice find!

Definitely original mahogany case! Cool machine! As others have said, the mahogany is fragile and can split very easily.

Re: Mahogany (or Imitation Mahogany) Standard???
I have heard of cases coming apart at the corners or the back panel splitting when the motor was left in the raised position. Mahogany can be a strong wood but it doesn't age as well as oak.Andersun wrote:Definitely original mahogany case! Cool machine! As others have said, the mahogany is fragile and can split very easily.

Re: Mahogany (or Imitation Mahogany) Standard???
Hi;
Nice find Gene! I have several questions of the forum members regarding the mahogany machines where the majority were oak (Gem, Fireside, Standard, Home, and Triumph.)
1) What dictates the price of a mahogany machine? Is a Gem worth more than a Triumph? How about a Fireside vs. a Triumph, etc?
2) Is a banner model worth more than the Edison script decal?
3) I have a mahogany banner-front Standard Model B. Does anyone else have one of these?
4) What would the general value be for:
Banner Decal Script Decal
Gem
Fireside
Standard
Home
Triumph
Thanks
Scott
