Wanted to know about the hmv 94a portable phonograph?

The HMV94 was an overseas model probably intended for the Indian market, hence the brown leatherette finish which was popular there. Some may also have been produced in polished wood finish, although I have never seen one.
Two different motors are known, single and double spring, so it is possible that one version was designated 94 and the other 94a. Which motor does yours have?
As to the date, the 94 was catalogued in 1939/1940 after which it was no longer listed. Examples turn up in the UK from time to time, probably brought back by owners at the end of their overseas postings.

Here you go. Apart from the double spring motor, identical to the HMV 97.
