The bar on the metal base for the Edison School machine actually pulls out and works as a shelf to place a record carton for making a selection. The 8-7 and 8-8 are really mobile compared to the VV-XXV and Edison. The Edison base has caster type wheels but is really top heavy with the machine on top.

Jerry, you will need to get the Victrola IX and matching wheeled cabinet to add to your school collection. Columbia had wheeled cabinets to use in the schools also. A collector could assemble a sizeable collection of just school house machines if they wanted to specialize.

Very nice indeed!
I would love to own an 8-7 and 8-8 someday.
The closest I come is an 8-9, which by the way, I love to play records on!

Interesting thread Jerry. I had never seen one of the Edisons.

That is a telescoping support that pulls out so you can set a record box on it.coyote wrote:I think I recall reading somewhere the hypothesis that the regular Cygnet bells were repurposed this way. I had never noticed the bar at the front of the Edison School cabinet that runs around the side before. I presume this is a grab bar for moving it on its casters?
