Hawaiian Music

I started this thread about Hawaiian music because the subject was being switched from the Victor I cabinet. I have a soft spot for Hawaiian music because I was stationed in Hawaii when I was in the Navy. I had a lot of good times there, and had a blast. To me, Hawaiian music seems so soothing, exotic and laid back. When I play my Hawaiian music on disk or cylinder, I remember the good times I had when I was there. Not everyone like this kind of music, but that's OK. There is something for every one in this hobby. If anyone wants to GIVE AWAY their Hawaiian records, I'll take them off your hands.

My Great Grandfather was stationed in Hawaii during the Spanish-American War. We have many vintage photos of him and troops and encampments in Hawaii.

He must have enjoyed it there and liked what he heard while there because the Diamond Disc collection I inherited from him is loaded with Hawaiian records.

I can't say these are my favorites, but they are great listening when a calming effect is needed, and enjoy them when the mood is right.

This is an enjoyable CD, expertly transferred from original 78's. I was listening to it a couple months ago. It's on the always estimable Yazoo label.

Though I must admit to not bothering with the Hawaiian 78's I have. Residue of prior prejudices or something - can't quite get the rind off that pineapple.

I had not heard the old oaken bucket but it seems to turn up alot, I think I have a indestructible cylinder of it. Hmmm maybe I will offer it for sale for $ 150.00 firm. just kidding.

How about being punished with a crapa-o-phone, the kind with 2 horns listening to a stack canary or parakeet records? That will really annoy the neighbors when they blast their rap crap.

I totally agree. Some of the Hawaiian music is almost haunting. If anyone had told me when I was 17 that I would be listening to Hawaiian music on 78s in my late 40s, I would have laughed at them (given the fact that I loved heavy metal music back then).
