Another new aquisition, God I'm so hooked!

Post by ejackett »

About a month or so ago I purchased a restored Standard Model A external horn
machine from Tim Fabrizio, it is a great looking and nice machine and Tim did a
great job on it. Sooooo I started looking for another external horn machine and
finally found one in my price range (cheap). It happens to be another Standard
Model A, only difference between this one and the one from Tim is the start/stop
and speed controls and the blue petal horn. I want to do the work this may need
myself and see how it comes out, using the first one as a my guide. I may need
to contact Tim for help on some things or parts. I'm posting a few pics, and any
and all comments are appreciated :D
Thanks to all
Gene

Very nice! I rather like the look of the Standard As and they make an interesting side note to collections due to the quirky spindle size. And I note that unlike some other side eddy brands they seem to be bringing pretty good prices, so others must like them as well. Having one is on my one-of-these-days want list.

Gene, The machine you got from Tim is the early one. It was made from about 1908-12. It uses the early motor that were used on the early front mount Columbia Machines. The one you just got is slightly later from about 1912-14 or so. The last of these had the nickel plated brass tone arm and used the bayonet fitting Grafonola type reproducer. Nice machine. It will clean up nicely.

Nice addition, Gene! I noticed that one with the blue horn on eBay, it was tough for me to not pursue it myself, it is in very nice original condition! One day, I hope I'll be able to add one just like it to my collection. I really like the green horns that were available on the Model A's also, the red ones just don't do it for me. ;)

Thanks for all the positive replies, and thanks Harvey for the info on the
difference in the age of the two, Fran have you seen this one on ebay?
here is the link http://www.ebay.com/itm/151394782498?ss ... 1423.l2648
It looks pretty nice too, but it has the red horn:(
I can't wait to get this new one I hopefully should have it by the middle of next week and
hopefully fedex won't dent it up or break it, it only has 300 miles to come :o

It even has its own custom volume control....

That turntable felt is, errr, "interesting." All and all though, it doesn't look to be in bad shape (unless I'm missing something.--not well versed on these.)

looks like it was put on to match the horn and decal,
just a little too much red for me, even tho I have
a red horn one.
