Our Slaton, in some photos seem to be in a stock of talking machines at the beginning of the last century, is impressive, and the eyes rejoices the heart, parebéns, I enjoyed seeing his noble collection.

Another characteristic is that they are for every room in the house is interesting and well functional, my collection is grouped more so that I have a space of my own, sometimes you miss that? lives with many people?
A hug and congratulations for the beautiful collection of Victrolas.

Slaton, That has to be the best collection of Tinfoil and Edison machines that I have ever seen in one place. How did you acquire such machines? Did I count (2) Idelias? How did you acquire the tinfoil machines??

:o)

Hello Andreas and thank you very much for your kind post. I focus my collection on phonographs made by the Victor Talking Machine Company. I enjoy the sound produced by the Victrola, especially the Orthophonic machines. I did wish to own at least one external horn Victor, so the Victor II came into my home. I developed a set of standards when I decided to begin a collection, especially a collection that could take up a lot of space in a moderately-sized home: the Victrolas had to be accessible and playable, look attractive individually and as a group, avoid clutter, and allow easy movement within and between rooms.

The collecting "bug" bit me quite early-on and I had to find other ways to display that fit the standards I'd set for myself. As a single parent, I had the freedom to utilize other areas of the house without discussion, so, when the Living Room reached capacity, I displayed Victrolas in the Master Bedroom. Eventually, I had the opportunity to own a pristine VV-XVI "L-Door" and a VV-350 "Art Case" model. I found creative ways to display them properly, and fit those standards. For now, I have no room for any more Victrolas. My two boys refuse to have any Victrolas in their rooms, so I'll have to wait until they move out on their own before I resume collecting, or find new ways to add another Victrola. ;)

Again, thank you for your kind post. I truly admire your collection; it is quite beautiful and amazing.

I'm just in awe of these wonderful collections! Thanks to all for taking the time to post wonderful, clear photos of their respective collections. This gives many of us valuable ideas for display of our own machines and accessories. I especially admire the sentiment of having the machine accessible to play at any time----this precludes stacking records, other machines and plants on the lids, although we all know that's inevitable at some point too. I've been guilty of this myself!

I continue to enjoy the postings as this thread grows yet with time. As such, the seemingly never-ending process of cleaning up the old farm place continues. Recently, we have cleaned up and brought home this addition. We found this several years ago in the same place where it was placed when it was purchased new...what was then a furniture and undertakers business. More photos of some of our "Phonospace" may be found on pages 5 and 6 of this thread for those that may be interested.
Thanks for visiting!

Hello everyone

Sorry for the delayed reply to the several comments on the pictures I posted of some of my machines. First, thank you for the positive comments. It is a nice collection and for that I have a lot of very generous friends active on this forum, and outside, to thank. George, Rene, Wyatt Markus along with several others like Scott Colgrove and Steve Oliphant helped me think through what I should have in my collection, taught me patiently on the finer aspects of rarity of machines, etc. It has been fun. Aaron Cramer started me down the path of upgrading my collection to rarer machines.

Couple of specific reactions to some of the comments. First, ... No, this is not the Charley Hummel collection...I wish I had half as nice a collection but it has been fun studying, researching and pursuing high quality and original machines. Second, except for the small French tinfoil sitting lonely on the shelf above the Class Ms, all of the other tinfoils are replicas. I would hate anyone confusing the quality and rarity of my tinfoil collection with Rene's. In fact, Wyatt and I joke that I am the tinfoil replica king! But, they are very good replicas...Some of you may recognize the Ptacek Bergmann, along with the Ray Phillips and Norn Solgas Bergmann replicas. The Phonoautograph is a Norm Solgas replica. See the attached picture of Norm with his replicas. My understanding is that there are two Norm Solgas Bergmann replicas. I have no idea if there are many more Solgas Phonoautograph replicas. I don't know if the phonoautograph that sold at Stanton's a few years back is a sister/brother to this one and came from the Solgas family tree!

Bob S (Zwebie)), thank you for you kind post. I recall seeing the fabulous basement room you created and showed on the forum and I was inspired to create this phonograph room of mine. The room is not completely done yet and needs more organization. And Bruce, I think my Slaton forum name may have confused you...a see my real name below, ....you always have a welcome to come see the collection.

Anil
