I just acquired the 2/4 set up for my Edison Gem. It included the carriage shaft, 3 gear cluster and the gear with the shaft and knob. I installed them. When I lower the gear cluster the small rear gear engages with the feed screw gear but the large front gear does not make contact with the mandrel gear. Can anyone familiar with this set up give me some advice. Anyone have the instructions for installation sheet?
Thanks, Bob

Re: Edison Gem 2/4 Attachment
Hi Bob!
Congrats on your new GEM attachment! I love GEM's and that attachment. Could you please describe again what you are doing? The 2 minute mode should find the attachment gear cluster in the "up" position and the gear between the feedscrew and mandrel engaged. To put it in 4 minute mode, you should push the knurled knob of the intermediate gear in so that it is totally disengaged. Don't push it too far or it may rub on the mandrel, causing drag. Now the attachment gear cluster should be lowered into place and should engage the mandrel gear and, in turn, the feedscrew. Let me know how it goes. If you can't get it, I'll try to send some pictures of one of mine. I also have the attachment instructions someplace, and if I can find, will try to post a copy. It's easier to describe talking! You could always pm me your phone number and I could call you and walk you through it if you can't get it working. Good luck!!

Re: Edison Gem 2/4 Attachment
Hi Mike, Thanks for the info. I figured it out. The carriage rod was slightly bent at that end and the small axle for the front gear on the gear cluster was bent. I straightened them both out. All the gears engage and it is working great. Nice little attachment. And I was lucky the spring plays thru a 4 min cylinder.

Bob,
I think you were really lucky to find the 2/4 attachment... I see them sometimes for Standards and Homes, but GEMs are a different story...

Dear Bob
You are also lucky to have a Gem with a spring strong enough to runan entire four minuite cylinder! The earlier Gems (A-C) had a thinner spring, and from personal experience unless they are in good shape, well oiled and adjusted, they tend to run out of steam well before the end of the record. Yours sounds like a good one.
Well done!
