1927 Brunswick. No. 2 Reproducer?

Post by johnny899 »

So on craigslist a couple of days ago I noticed what at first glance appeared to be an Orthophonic victrola, but upon closer inspection was a Brunswick Panatrope from about 1927. I received a video from the seller of the phonograph that I uploaded to youtube (probably should have gotten her consent first)and if you observer closely you'll see a no. 2 reproducer. I'm curious if you think this is a botched phonograph or if there's something I'm missing here.

Here's the Craigslist Link: http://boston.craigslist.org/bmw/atq/4614862980.html

It has a Victor tone-arm (too short for this machine, btw) & Exhibition reproducer, so yes I would call it "botched". The crank was suspiciously sloppy, too.

Yes, I saw it in person and posted another thread asking about this. It has a Victor tonearm and a very beat up Exhibition (not a No. 2). The cabinet also has a fair amount of wear and the lid has chipping on the veneer. I have no idea how hard it will be to find the correct tonearm and reproducer, but so far no one here has offered me one.

Suggest giving George Vollema a call to see if he has the correct arm and reproducer and, if so, get the price. Then use that info to dicker on the price a little if you want it.

The original ad has expired, but the machine has been reposted -- search for "Victrola" (of course!) on the same site. By happenstance, looks like there's a very nice Brunswick replacement arm and reproducer right now on eBay: (NOT MINE.)

If a person could negotiate a lower price on the machine and cop the eBay item at a low bid (this is the second time it's been listed there; first time it went without a bid at $99), it might be a rescue worth doing.
