What is the best way to remove the mica side ring on these reproducers?

It should unscrew counter-clockwise. The four small holes around the face of the ring can be used as leverage to unscrew it by putting the point of a nail or something in one of them using that to unscrew the ring.

If you've already tried that unsuccessfully, then being made of pot metal, it is likely stuck. I don't really have a good solution to the stuck pot metal issue. Sometimes, a good dose of Liquid Wrench or something similar several times over a period of several days or weeks might work, but not always.

    Any other ideas?

Thanks CDBPDX. Since these are pot metal I made a little tool to apply equal pressure. Gave it a small soak with PC Blaster and used my (Pat. Pend) new tool and off it came :D I filed the points off the nails which gave it a real solid grip in the holes. Cheers
