There is a great looking Edison A-250 on Craigslist Central New Jersey for $275.00. What a fantastic deal for someone close! Plus it has the early case with the vents on the side.

You would think someone would bite, but I doubt it. There have been two really nice A-250s on the board for sale for some time at fair prices, and nobody on the board seems to have any interest.

Great find! In case you are not familiar with the construction, the A250 cannot be transported on it's back with the mechanism in place. You will need to remove the mechanism. If you need instructions on how to do that, email me.DGPros wrote:I have been in touch and hope to pick it up tuesday. Thank you guys for that insight. I didn't know about transporting the machine,(my first DD) so I have learned something new again. Who said you can't teach and old dog new tricks? I have been in contact and hope to pick the machine up this weekend. So far he seems to be on the level. He not only mentioned transporting the machine upright but also told me the machine has been refinishes, so it doesn't quite match with the drawers color. He also has some discs for sale. I have no idea which ones or how many, but looking forward so see what he has. I will keep you posted when and if the deal is finalized.

It almost looked like it had been refinished. Still a nice example on the cheap. However, for only $175 more you could have the most beautiful original example money can buy, and it's only a couple hours down the road.DGPros wrote:Thank you guys for that insight. Re: A-250 FOR $275.00 on Cragslist !!!!
Well I picked up the machine this morning. Everything looks good. The serial # is 1593 which matches the #'s on all the parts I've looked. There is some chipping of paint on the horn but the bedplate looks good. It was painted at one time yellow and the lid blue.
Many years ago he removed the paint and tried to get it as close to the original look. I think he did a great job. You can see the slight difference though from the drawers and the outer case. The record drawer slots wood seems a little rough to put the 80's in. (wonder if that will catch on)I also received about 75 DD's but 20 or so are not in good shape. At some point in it's travels to Jersey, the drawer either locked or got stuck.
That's a matter for tomorrow. He mentioned something about wooden needles and another "reproducer" that he forgot to give me, but will mail to me later this week. All I could think is it's to play 78's. Wooden needles?? Any thoughts??? The cleaning will begin tomorrow.

Congrats. Having that early style case is nice. Please keep us posted with some before and after pics as you go.
