So I have a question regarding the sizes of the back-brackets on the Victor horn machines (the earlier version, not the ones with the slip in elbow).
I know that the Vic 1 and E used a unique size.
I pretty sure the IIs also had their own size.
I know the M, III, and IV shared the same back bracket.
But what about the V and VI? I know the VI was different in that the painted pattern did not have the blue in it, but is it a different size than the one used on the III and IV? I have a reprint of a Victor parts catalog that lists different part numbers for the back brackets of the V and VI. Conversely, looking at Wyatt's parts catalog, he lists the back brackets as I, II, and III through VI.
So, is the back bracket for the V and VI different beyond the painted pattern on them (and does anyone have pictures of them side by side?)?
Thanks
Z

Re: Victor Backbracket Size Question
The back bracket for the Victor V, VI and D (fancy & plain) are different in size from the III & IV models. The larger machines us a shorter bracket in width. But the tone arms are the same size and are interchangeable between them.Zeppy wrote:So I have a question regarding the sizes of the back-brackets on the Victor horn machines (the earlier version, not the ones with the slip in elbow).

Re: Victor Backbracket Size Question
Is there someone how could be so kind as to share the dimensions of the backbracket for the 6?
I have a long term project, and figure I need to start keeping my eyes open for one.

Re: Victor Backbracket Size Question
So could we safely say that a Victor I back bracket stands alone....a Victor II bracket stands alone......But a Vic III and IV are the same.....and a Vic V and VI are the same...???

Re: Victor Backbracket Size Question
It's not quite as simple as it sounds. Machines like the Vic I changed case size so the back bracket changed as well. Also, I've seen Vic E's with the Vic II size back bracket and elbow but generally the smaller bracket. Of course there is always a chance that a collector has changed something. As a general rule the following is true:
Victor E and Victor I utilized the small back bracket and tone arm.
Victor II (both fancy case and plain case) used the same back bracket until late in the era. The big case Victor I also used this bracket.
Victor M, MS, III, IV all shared the same size bracket.
Victor D (fancy and plain), V, and VI shared the same size bracket.
The M, MS, D, III, IV, V, & VI all shared the same size tone arm. The cabinets on all these models came in two basic sizes. The smaller models (M, MS, III, and IV) had brackets that were deeper from the point where they attached to the cabinet and the pivot point of the tone arm. The larger models (D, V, &VI) had brackets with a shorter distance. This allowed Victor to use the same size tone arm with all those models.
IMPORTANT: When considering the purchase of any Victor, always rotate the reproducer into a playing position and the needle should come very close, or better yet, touch the spindle. If it is not touching or very close, there is a good chance the tone arm or bracket is not correct.

Thank You Jerry. Many postings on this sight contain the wrong info concerning these brackets. I can see that you know your stuff!

Re: Victor Backbracket Size Question
Dear Zeppy
I believe I have a Vic v or VI back bracket on my Victor III.
If you can find me a Vic III or IV bracket (or M), then I will do something with you .

Re: Victor Backbracket Size Question
To answer your previous question.. I believe the dimensions for vic 5 and 6 are as follows:
7 inches wide.......and 7.25 inches tall.
What would be great is if we could somehow classify all Victor brackets by size....so everyone will be clear on this topic. We will all know exactly what bracket we are dealing with. To the best of my knowledge, there is no info concerning this topic anywhere.
