Pictures from the Wayne NJ Phonograph Show

Here are some pictures from the show in Wayne, NJ taken today. Attendance was very good. Many people were here this morning probably due to the big auction at 5:00 pm today in Breinigsville, PA. By 2:00 pm most of the dealers were packing up and heading to Breinigsville which is about 90 miles from Wayne.

Thanks for posting some pictures of the show. It sure looks like it was well attended! Do you recall how much the mahogany Home was? Tell us what you thought of that auction. How were the prices. Did you buy anything?

As I said in my post attendance was great, probably due to Pa auction. It was great to have a crowd like that, as compared to the low turnout at the Danbury show. I had my usual 3 tables at Wayne, machines, cylinders, and records. Prices seem pretty good. There were some bargains and some high priced things. The Mahognany Home that Rich had there was $2500.00. I think that was a good price as it was in amazing condition. He also had a Victor M with an oak horn for $1700.00 which I couldn't understand wasn't bought up right away. I picked up a nice oak Amberola Modle 50, a nice rebuilt Columbia Q reproducer, and a box of 40 brown wax cylinders. I also sold a bunch of records and Diamond Disc, cylinders, brown and black wax blank cylinders, and four Edison machines. I had a very good show as I usually do.

I picked up this nice peacock horn to complete my Parlophone- so it was an excellent day for me.

Nicely done, Rich. I looked at that oak 50 myself...

The horn on the M was a really nice Don Gfell horn, not an original, otherwise I probably would have bought that myself!

What did you pay for the Amberola 50? I picked up an Early Model Oak Amberola 50 a few years ago for $524.00 It is the nicest and finest Amberola 50 that I have ever seen and it was it worth every penny. I could not pass it up. The machine has its original finish and looks like it was bought yesterday. It is definitely Museum quality. Sure there were cheaper Amberola 50's out there..but nowhere near the quality of the one that I picked up.

One of these days, I'd like to pick up an easier to find Mahoghany Amberola 50 to match the Oak one.

My buddy and I got there around 11:30 AM... when we walked-in, I heard the distinctive sounds of Edith Piaf, which I traced to the Wolf Den Cafe wall, where someone was demonstrating a VERY nice circa 1930 Columbia Radio-Phono combination... it was tagged at $600.


I had to duck back outside for about 20 minutes to meet someone who was dropping-off a machine, and when I came back in, the Columbia Radio-Gram was gone ! Somebody went home with a VERY nice early electric machine !


My friend bought a bunch of records, I got some repair parts from Ron Sitko, and a "New Columbia Reproducer" to replace one I snapped the neck off of earlier this summer , and a pot-metal Ortho with a divot out of the back-flange, but still air-tight and repairable.

It's always a treat to go to Wayne.

I think My friend and I are going to plan a trip to Union in the near future !

I almost hate to say that I only paid $150.00 for the AMBEROLA 50. It had a couple small pieces of vernier missing on the top but plays great. The reproducer was completely rebuilt. This will be my next project to restore it to a great machine. I had a beautiful mahognany 50 that I sold because I wanted one in oak.
