is the loop that arches over the musicians part of a letter in the name of a brand/company for which this material serves as advertising?

No, but is is part of the overall decoration of the item. Hint-I have slightly moved the fellows in relation to the above curve.

Ive looked and looked at this and it doesn't ring any bells. Is it something I would be likely to be aware of in the UK?

well, if it's any sort of record label or catalog cover, I'm clueless when it comes to that stuff.

It isn't a 'potatohead' Whiteman sleeve, is it? I can't remember exactly what those look like and the non-Whiteman-appearing conductor figure has prevented me from posting this guess for a long time.

Nah, there's no full length bodies on the potato-head covers (not on ours anyway).
