A Seldom Found Phonograph Book

Post by gramophone78 »

After many years I was finally able to purchase a first edition (1978) of the Italian published "Stereostory". There is a second edition (red cover) printed in the mid 80's. However, the gold cover first edition has crisper printing .

This 300+ page book contains pics of some rare and seldom seen US & European machines, rare parts, ephemera, reproducers, etc.. . Including many machines from a world class Italian collection.

I found this copy in a used book store in Rome.

In the back are pages of a 1907 sales catalog. To my surprise.....I found one of my record cabinets.... :o.

You learn something new everyday... ;).

I'm sure it's totally inaccurate. They probably claim that Pope "X" from the 17th Century invented the phonograph. You can't trust those books.

Forget the book, that's a seldom found tavolini.

If one does not read Italian, the image could be misconstrued as a barbecue grill with upper warming tavolini. 8-)
The photo makes all of the difference, who ever heard of a wooden barbecue grill.

James.

Of course, the Russians would claim they invented the phonograph. Back in Soviet times, the Russians claimed to have invented everything. Perhaps they still do.

That record cabinet is awesome! Thank you very much for sharing. Something else to be on the lookout for. 8-)

Fantastic record cabinet!!

I have the gold first edition as well. My favorite part is page 56, showing his Hardy tinfoil, which is now in my collection -- and not going anywhere soon.

 ... I bet not. A great photo of "your" Hardy tinfoil (for it's time). Also,in the tinfoil section, there is a photo of a mutual friend of ours "hands" holding original tinfoil in a wooden holder. Of course "his" Kohl is also in the photo. I told him he should have been a "hand" model.... :?  .

Being a bit biased.....I like Pages 224 & 225 showing a great hot-air machine.... ;).

I had a wood stove. Guaranteed to burn for 3 hours.
