Over-Used Orthophonic

Here's a problem: I have used a particularly favorite Orthophonic reproducer, originally from a 2-65 portable, so much & for so long that the needle-chuck threads are worn out. I switched thumbscrews twice, but nothing catches properly, lately. Can I get the hole re-cut to use a fatter screw, or is this now dead? It's my best sounding Ortho - or at least my oldest & sweetest.

I recently purchased a No. 2 reproduction thumbscrew from Walt Sommers that I believe he has manufactured for his store. I'd check with him as he possibly has dealt with that before and perhaps has a solution for you. Good luck!

John Nagy at Phonographs.org can do the job for you quickly and inexpensively. He has done it for me before when I broke off a needle thumb screw in the hole. Drilled it out and put a new thumbs screw in and had it back in about a week. I know there are others out there that can do it, but he is who I have used. Good Luck!

It can be repaired. Probably best to leave to s specialist such as those mentioned above.
