Polly Portable's new Oscillator

My Polly Portable now sounds and looks great thanks to its new Oscillator (horn) built by Curt Angstman. The quality and looks are dead on and much more rugged that the original cardboard oscillator. If you need one of these - Curt's the guy to go to

I just received an oscillator from Curt for my Polly Portable - its a perfect match and very well constructed!!
Even if you have the original they tend to be quite fragile. Its great to have a durable copy to easily assemble and demonstrate the machine or actually use out of doors as was intended!

Well, let me add my voice to the chorus---well done, Curt~!

Mine arrived well protected in cardboard, and I tried it out right away. This thing plays well! I also got the copy of the instruction card, which I'm happy to report is legible and helpful.

My Polly came with the original cone that was just plain tuckered out. Paper isn't exactly a "forever" material. Curt's version is stiffer and inspires confidence to work well over the years to come. Being that it is laminated, it's probably less susceptible to weakening if conditions happen to be somewhat humid. As with any acoustic machine, the choice of needle and record will dictate much of your listening experience. Electrically recorded discs tend to have more oomph in the grooves, and in my case seem to drive the conical horn to perform a bit better. The performance is better when you're listening from the cone-facing-you position. I had been sitting behind the cone, listening as I was doing paperwork, and wondered why it sounded so weak. Only when I turned the machine around to have the open cone facing me did I get the full sonic experience.

Again, Curt---many thanks for a find product. Now I'll actually *play* this Polly Portable, instead of merely keep it on the shelf collecting dust.
