I recently picked up a portable VV 2-35. This reproducer is made differently than other orthophonic reproducers. This one is made of metal and not brass nor pot metal. By looking at the pictures below you notice there are no screws securing the back and front together. The front and back are pressed together on this reproducer. Does anyone know if this reproducer can be opened and serviced? It still sounds good, but servicing will make it sound better. Thanks all in advance.

From what I've heard, no- they were pressed together and sealed. If it sounds good don't fiddle with it.

It looks as though the back-plate nests inside the front cover, and the back-edge of the front cover lip is rolled / pressed -over the back-plate.
Does not look like it was designed to be serviced.

I note that the outer edge is reeded. Why? Could be that way to get a grip and unscrew the back from the front.

I agree. Also, knowing Victors to be the most easily servicable gramophones, it seems very odd that they would make this one vital component non-servicable.jboger wrote:I note that the outer edge is reeded. Why? Could be that way to get a grip and unscrew the back from the front.

From the photos, it looks to me as though the entire reproducer assembly mounts to the taper-arm via three screws that engage "key-hole slots" in the flange on the arm; the "coin-egde" might be there to provide grip for removing/installing the entire reproducer ?

This is a very similar soundbox to the HMV No.16. Made as a sealed unit, the front cover being rolled over the back. Therefore non-repairable or adjustable.
