Edison Triumph at the flea market

Post by Victrolaboy »

Hello everyone,
This after noon while I was setting up my booth for the flea market I thought I would take a look around at some of the other booths (because I'm always hunting for phonographs ;) ). So came across an Edison Triumph 2 and 4 minute phonograph with over a hundred cylinders and a morning glory horn but without a crane. The person selling it wants $500 for all of it so I want other peoples opinion on this. I vote heck yes! I have a business of selling restored phonographs is the only reason why I have 10 machines in my collection and I'm 13.

Hey Nick-- It is so cool to see someone your age taking such a serious interest in this very fun hobby. The Triumph sounds like an outstanding buy. You obviously have gained enough knowledge to know what to look for. For my vote, I'd say go for it. 100 cylinders in good shape will just about pay for your investment. If it's a "Triumph" morning glory, all the better. That's a tough horn to find. Congrats of finding the opportunity. Please post pics if you get it.

Sounds like a good buy to me, but it's a flea market, aren't you supposed to haggle?

I'd put on a 13 year old sad face, wear winter gloves with your fingertips poking through,
and don't look over excited. Maybe you'll get it for a bit less and have a bit more room to negotiate
when you sell it.

PS- I was only half serious, 500 sounds like an already great price for a complete Triumph

Yes I really only want to pay 400 or 450 for it if they will lower the price. At my booth selling phonographs I'm a very tough negotiator. ;)

If you think the Triumph and records are in decent enough shape, I would not dawdle. It will be snapped up by someone while you deliberate whether to buy or haggle. With experience, sometimes you have to trust your own judgement and make a snap decision or lose the deal to someone else. It sounds like a tremendous deal [unless the merchandise is junk] even at $500. If I had seen it at that price, you would have lost the opportunity in 1.5 seconds.
