The "long/short" switch is the most obvious indication. See this page for info:

I have a 1C long Play that has the Long and short reproducer and another standard head that plays 78s. The cabinet is in excellent condition with original un-restored finish. It plays well although I do not have any long play records just the standard Edison. I have it on display in my office.
