Here's a pic that has always amused me: view of the Bargain Basement at Archambaults! It's from a postcard series of views inside the Archambault Store in Montreal on Ste-Catherine East. The best part is that Archambault is still in busines AND this is still a music and record store. Sadly the sous-sol d'economies these days isn't full of these goodies from 1931: just when people began to dump their acoustic machines but when they still had some resale value. See the little machine with the 75 dollar price tag? I think that is the Apex " phonic" machine that I mentioned in another post. In the rear are lots of acoustic Victors, but it's the piles of records on that table I want to go through.

I find this one quite interesting. I wonder what the reasoning was for the insertion of the Edison into what is obviously a photographers set complete with painted background scene? I have a huge old photo of my Great Grandparents in 1904 and they are in front of a large elaborate home painting and sprinkled with wicker tables and such, but no central phonograph! Of course this one is years latter, but still, it seems interesting that they choose to all sit around that Edison? What could be the reason for that? Could someone in the Family been a part of the Factory, or management, or a musician perhaps? Would sure be interesting to know.

I'm pretty sure the other man standing with Peter Dawson and Alfred Clark is Mark Hambourg, the pianist who was an HMV best seller.

Larry,

It's quite possible that one in the family worked on the Edison factory in either way that you mention.
But the first thing I thought of when I saw this was, this is a family who are proud of their phonograph.

I think you're right. He went on tour with Dawson when he came to Oz & NZ I think.

Walter Van Brunt was quite the handsome man in his early career. I obsess over dental work. Looks like you could park a Chrysler in those gaps!
