Question about our Trader section of the Forum...

Post by Jerry B. »

When you post something for sale in the Trader section of the Form and it sells, do you edit your listing to remove the selling price? I generally edit mine to just tack on "SOLD". I have been asked by the buyer to edit the listing to remove the price and have done so. What do you do and what is your logic? We recently had a listing and the originator removed all content. I wondered why this was done. Thanks, Jerry B.

I can tell you how it should be done...
FOR SALE: Victor III - $1500

I have a nice Victor III for sale, $1500 or best offer.
Once sold, the ad should look like this:
FOR SALE: Victor III - SOLD

I have a nice Victor III for sale, $1500 or best offer.
But nobody seems to listen to me, so I continue to waste me time editing Yankee Trader ads every day (or deleting them if I'm in a particularly salty mood).

*sigh* :(

This addresses one of my pet peeves about the the Trader section. I would like to see the items marked "Sold", but with the price left in for reference purposes. It is sometimes frustrating to see an item that was already sold and not have any idea as to the price. Why not simply delete the listing once the item has sold?

Quite true. However, what if the item is listed as "inquire" as per our forum guidelines...?. Even better, what if a deal is made lower than the sellers asking price....???. Is it really anyone's business what deal is made between two party's..??.
I would have to say it's up to the buyer & seller if they care to reveal that. Besides, one can also use Ebay or auction results as a reference (if needed). Even then....it does not mean the next exact item will realize the same price.

I don't think that anyone suggest to reveal a negotiated sales price, the request is simply to leave in the asking price that was already made public at the time of posting instead of deleting it. Of course, every sale is unique, and "it does not mean the next exact item will realize the same price". Nobody disputes that, but everyone wants to do some research, and since the asking price was already made public at some point, why delete it?

Unless asked by the buyer, I will continue to leave the asking price followed by 'SOLD". I think it's a good reference for other collectors. Jerry

Please leave the asking price in the body of the post and remove the price in the title. Thanks :-)
