Edison actually started putting the 10/12" buttons on their machines as early as 1922, in anticipation of the projected 12" discs (which were then shelved until the LP discs came out).
I have a BC-34 from the early days of production, SN 4585 (with the smaller horn), and it also has the buttons: no indication that it was ever modified for LPs.
