Tinfoil plans

Post by stevel »

I've recently come back to Phonographs and seem to remember a book that contained plans for the Edison Tinfoil phonograph , but can't for the life of me remember what it was called.
Would anyone know of such a book?
Thanks
Steve

Yes, the book "Tinfoil Phonographs" by Rene Rondeau contains plans for Edison's original Kruesi prototype.

Charlie Smith has made some tinfoil machines that are based on the article in Scientific American from 1878. The following link takes you to Charlie Smith's tinfoil pics and the Scientific American Schematics in PDF format. Also, while you are there, check out Charlie's mp3s recorded by him on a Rec-O-Cut turntable - they are some of the best recordings that I have heard and some rare titles...

Of course there is also the 1892 book from W. Gillet "The Phonograph and how to construct it", which is available for free on Google books http://books.google.com/books/about/The ... k5AQAAIAAJ. There are also modern reprints of this book.
