I really like the site except the constant single sided views and opinions folks bleep out when they see a bunch of parts for sale or even when someone had gathered random parts and built something.. It's sickning and brings the quality of this site down.

What folks need to get upset about, in my collecting experience, it is the placement of these machines. They must be kept in the house. Not in basements and garages. Pest penetrate the feet and if it's not caught quick, it's the end. Now I know why there are so many shorty versions of Victrolas and Electrolas.

So, one can understand... When I was wiping down the VE12-15 and preping to wrap it up for sale, I discovered holes in the feet and a few pin holes in the lower legs. I very closely inspected the rest of the machine to find no evidence of further expanse of the previous boring or any new activity. None the less, this was hugely upsetting that another machine is ruined by the previous owner keeping it in the basement, and now I certainly could not sell this machine with holes in its feet on eBay. There were watchers but no bidders. I was forced to part it out. Btw,that previous owner is now a 5 year widow of a previous collector, so I suppose knowing that, it's hard to get upset at her. I did buy the VE12-15 two weeks ago for the sole purpose of replacing the missing amp and speaker in my VE10-70, then quickly selling the VE12-15 to someone that could bring it back whole. I hope some folks don't find that as offensive activity. If so, you might want keep it to yourself.

It's sad to see an antique phonograph parted out, but your explanation and justification are certainly understandable. I fully realize that this wasn't your original intent and I sympathize with your disappointment in not being able to pass it along intact. On the brighter side, this was the first time I'd ever seen a VE 12-15 outside of "Look For The Dog" and "The Victor Data Book". I appreciate, and am thankful for, your comments and wish you all the very best.

why? because you don't agree with their opinions on one of the more polarizing issues among collectors, being the parting out of otherwise whole, restoreable machines? this is a forum for conversation, debate and discussion. one-way dialogues geared toward sales are probably better suited for craigslist or ebay. otherwise, you should expect, if not welcome, comments being that that's what this site is here for.

I have seen quite few VE 10-70s and owned a couple but never saw one with the AP-736 amplifier. They all have had the tomcat amps.
Very interesting. Would like to see what it looks like from the back.

Real pity. I can certainly understand restoring the 10-70 in preference to a 12-15 (though I do prefer the 12-15 myself.) ,
Oddly enough, I have at the moment a spare "tomcat" amplifier, restored and working.

Uncle Vanya, thanks but looks like I lost out on it. Too bad. Too bad also I made the mistake of thinking that just because the late-model 9-15 amp is the same as the late-model 10-70, that the early models would be the same too. I see that in the Victor Databook now. It also looks like (going by tube type and count) that there are no other Victors that use the early 9-15 amp. I, by the way, don't know the difference between a tomcat and and alleycat.

I must say my intentions have gone awry. At this point I am pulling back to square one and going to do what I can for this machine. I have taken the cabinet core that had unknown live activity, sprayed it completely down with termite spray then wiped it down. Wrapped it with foamboard, plastic wrap, then Marine shrink wrap and its awaiting to be put in a large freezer for minimum of 60 days. I have pulled the parts from eBay and am shelving them until it's core cabinet's health can be known 100%.
