Yes, I noticed the screw used on the metal guard plate on the left side of the motor board is star top screws. The stain on the left motor board going front and back direction to join the front of the motor board, is a beginning of a brush stroke.

It must had been refinished, too red to be oak.

I just noticed the finish looks red in the picture like you said but in person it looks like regular oak. I wonder what would cause it to look more red in the picture than it really is. :?:

Nick,

Even if the machine has had some finish touch-up, and with those Phillips-head screws on the lid-latch escutcheons, it looks like there's much more that's good about this machine than not... and if you got a horn and a bunch of cylinders with it for $450, I think you did okay.


I didn't see any Triumphs going that cheaply at Wayne back in October, and that's w/o horn, reproducer or cylinders...

What reproducer came with your machine - Model C or Model H ?


I THINK this Triumph uses the same 2/4-minute conversion as the Home ( new pulley / mandrel & feedscrew assembly.


Others here can confirm or correct that statement.

It came with a model C reproducer but all of the cylinders are blue Amberols. I found a 2/4 minute conversion for a Home one eBay but it is $125 and it is only the new pulley. I would like to convert it to 2/4 minute but I can't find the complete conversion kit for a decent price (maybe around $100-$150).

Personally I'd avoid converting it. It will be expensive for the kit and you will never get your money out. Also there are plenty out there already converted or came as 2/4. Just get another when one comes along imho. :monkey:

Someone here, whose name will not be mentioned to protect the guilty :D , suggested that I spray the noisy springs in my Triumph with WD-40. I did that, just spraying through the openings in the ends of the barrels. And guess what, it worked like a charm. It is now months later and it still runs quite and strong.

GUILTY! :)

I can't recommend WD-40 for normal lubrication, but it usually (but not always) breaks down thick grease so that a mainspring extraction/cleaning/lube/reinstall is not necessary. Not that I don't enjoy that sort of thing, of course...

Unfortunately, one of times the WD-40 trick DIDN'T work was with a Triumph. I had to do all three mainsprings. :(

I've had good luck using Liquid Wrench penetrating oil to soften up old hard grease.

The 2 & 4 minute conversion on a Home will not work on a Triumph. The pulley and clutch are interchangeable but the mandrel and feed screw are different lengths. The Home is about ½" shorter than a Triumph.
I'm curious about the screws across the front of your bedplate. I don't remember ever seeing 3 screws, only 2, one at each front corner, none in the middle.
I agree with others that $450 is a good price for a complete running and playing Triumph, congratulations.
