Up date here.. I am now at 1,502 sides on my way to 2,000 and more. Steven wants to see how long they will go, if I live that long. So far its been a joy and still no evidence of wear on the record grooves or on clean run offs.

Another member who has been a long time collector who has tested some of my diaphragms for me over time received a stylus and found just about what I did.. His records never sounded clearer and has an improved volume as well. It seems we are near having something that many will appreciate when they become totally available.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

And a very Happy Thanksgiving to you Larry. Am adding all the work on this to my list of things to be thankful for. I really look forward to trying one myself when they are released.

Tony,

I believe the amberola version of the Bruce stylus is now available. You might try contacting Steven Medved at [email protected]. Mention as well you would like to be on his waiting list for the new Disc version.

Took me a a few days to get an for sure answer from Steven as he is as usual very busy. He says that the diamond will be available either installed in your bar, or alone, but he only will guarantee it if he installs it.. He still has some from the first lot of 25 so people interested can as I had thought send him an email to get on a list.

He sent part of a note to a buyer about the way in which Bruce is making the Disc diamond and why its holding up better. It has a smaller tip an of a high grade material. I know that myself in my testing have accidentally missed a defect in records which may have caused the other diamonds to fail, but so far the times that has happened have had no effect on the new stylus.

Should be around $80 installed, I would inquire with him to see if its any less without installation. I haven't heard either way on that question yet.

Update here.

I have reached the 2,000 sides of play. The sound is fine, no noticeable effects in the playing grooves, no black dust from the stylus. However i am seeing now a faint to slightly noticeable line in the run off. I am reasonable sure the problem stems from old records which sometimes slip past me with some sort of audible defect such as a small indentation or a slight surface defect. No way to be certain for sure. The quality of sound is much clearer than the previous products I had gone through. That alone makes the new stylus a good deal. With the old stylus purchased I could see the records being worn in the playing grooves sometimes from the first play or after a month or so of play. This is not showing any noticeable effects to the playing grooves so I suspect it sustained a slight chip in the point from something I hit on the records. The only way to know this for sure would be to play though the records with one head using a testing stylus and if some audible defect is heard then place it in a stack of records to avoid. Then playing the records which show no defects in sound with another stylus to see how it holds up. I probably will put that to a test somewhere in the near future.
