I am offering for sale one of the nicest Edison Standards I have ever seen. The finish is all original and exceptional. The celluloid ICS tag is perfect. The paint on the deck is bright and shiny. The deck striping is 100% with no wear at all. It comes with a very nice C reproducer. The mechanism runs quietly and flawlessly. If there is a slight drawback, the "Edison" decal is not perfect. I did read the thread on decal restoration and a good job would make this machine as perfect as any Standard in any collection.

I checked with George P. and he suggested the machine dates from 1909. The serial number is 634416. The machine was manufactured after the introduction of four minute cylinders and machines. The condition of the machine would suggest its primary use was as a language machine and not as an entertainment machine.

I took the photos with an ebay listing in mind. I'll list it here first because family should have first opportunity. If you are a condition collector, this machine is worthy of your consideration and paying about $100 more than a typical good Standard. The price is $500 with no horn but with the two empty ICS cylinder cartons.

I am happy to deliver to Union or APS for no additional cost. I will also ship at cost. Please PM with any interest or questions.

Thanks, Jerry Blais

One interesting feature on this machine is the pin striping on the bed plate. This pin striping is usually seen from the Model C and higher Standards. It unusual to see this on a Model B standard. I wonder if this is an anomaly? It's quite unusual.

I don't know if Martinola has a rough timeline of when the later style decorations (as seen on this B) came into use, but perhaps he can add more information. I've seen early production Standard Ds with earlier style decorations (singe pinstripe/tufts of grass). It's clear that this B was offered at the same time as the C and D (this is referenced in Frow as well).

Very cool model B, Jerry. This is the 2 minute Standard to have - especially if you want to make electronic transfers. You have the quiet model B motor with the top-mounted speed control plus the extra mechanical stability of the endgate. (I'm trying to think how I possibly could afford this one right now.) Anyway this machine encompasses many of the cool transitional elements in the shift away from the endgate.
As you suspected George, here is the esoterica:
The striping change seems to be around 633827 (a model B) with one or two later exceptions. This machine's number falls just a bit after that change. The Late style case seems to have started phasing in (with isolated earlier exceptions) around 640000. However most of the later Bs seem to have Tall style cases. The last model B I've seen was 690440.
Production of Cs began about 620000. The first Ds at about 623000. (Drilled holes in the bedplate for 2 minute gear covers would indicate that many of these Ds were originally intended as Model C machines.) The next build of the Bs seems to be around 626000. It was probably at that point that the patent plate was moved from under the mandrel to the rear. (I have to say "probably" because my only 626000 model B entries are data plates only.
)
Anyway Jerry, really nice machine. Good luck and best wishes!
Martin

Re: FOR SALE: Edison Standard B - ICS Machine- Exceptional -
I just acquired one of these from Forum member Kevin, finally managing to rendezvous at Wayne, after several months of trying to find a convenient time / place to meet.
It is simply a delightful machine, and living in Scranton, the ICS connection has a little extra special significance !
I hope this one finds a good home; beautiful machine, Jerry !
