1C Edison
I just purchased a !C Edison. It is has a long and short setting. It comes with two Edison heads and a 78 rpm head for playing all 78 records. It came with about a dozen Edison records. It works and sounds great. I am not sure of it's value the cabinet is in excellent shape also. I paid $100 for it, and am curious as to it's worth. I also bought at the same time a Edison 30 Cylinder player (with 4 blue cylinders) in a oak cabinet, the unit works great and the oak cabinet is excellent condition with original finish, it also plays well and cost me $150, so I now own two different Edison units and have them in my office but am new to these machines.

Re: 1C Edison
It sounds like you did very well--especially with the Amberola 30! 150 bucks is a great price for one in good condition. As to the 1C, if it is in working order, and in decent shape, I think you have a real treasure there! The reproducer head was designed by Theodore Edison, I believe, and could play Diamond Disc records and regular 78's....I believe this to be a rare phonograph. I know I have a couple of friends with Edison radios and radio/phonograph combos, but they are the ones that play just 78's, and couldn't play the Edison Diamond Disc records. Please post some pictures! Enjoy your great finds! Happy Holidays!

Re: 1C Edison
Do you mean the C-1 Radio Phonograph? A better description or even better, pictures would be very helpful and interesting.

Re: 1C Edison
If it has different reproducers + long play, it isn't electric. He means this http://forum.talkingmachine.info/downlo ... &mode=view

Re: 1C Edison
A word of caution! Don't try to play a regular Edison DD with the LONG play reproducer. And do not try to play a regular DD with the switch on Long. You probably already know all this, but you said you are new so I'm not presuming anything. The LONG reproducer will only play the very rare Long Play Edison DD's that say either 40 minutes on the 12" records, or 24 minutes on the 10" records. Where are you located? Marc.

The 1C Edison Diamond Disk Player I have is a wind up phonograph, it is not electric and does not have a Radio. The wood finish appears to be "ebony". I will post pictures tomorrow. I live in Cottonwood, AZ. I have noy played all of the Edison records, and have not used the Long Play setting or head. I do not know titles or what a long play record looks like. Is it a larger record (12") all mine are 10".

Re: 1C Edison
Timothy, IMHO what I think you have, a model 1C Long-Playing Console, is a very interesting machine to have in your collection. The Edison long-playing discs were a valiant experiment -- years ahead of their time -- in the late 20s toward the end of the company's existence that did not work out and they were fairly short lived on the market. As someone has already mentioned, there were both 10 and 12 inch discs, which can be identified by their labels, which are different from regular Diamond Disc labels. The discs are fairly rare now. Frow indicates that only 8 10" and 6 12" different LP record titles were ever marketed. I don't have any myself, but I understand from what I have read that finding them that play well may be rarer still due to the delicacy of the extremely fine groves necessary to make them work.

Re: 1C Edison
Here are several photos of the 1C Edison and Edison 30 I purchased. The 1C works very well and comes with three heads, Long Play, Short Play and 78 Victrola Conversion Unit. Did Edison make the 78 Adapter that came with this?. Although it came with 15 Edison disks none of them were long play. It sounds great. The cabinet is an Ebony finish, no missing wood, and original finish. The unit does not appear to have been touched. I replaced the grill cloth it was hanging in threads. It works great. The Edison 30 Cylinder also works great and came with 4 cylinders and the oak case is in excellent original condition. I paid $100 for the 1C and #150 for the Edison 30. I have them on display in my office and was wondering where I might find one long play record and also what the values of these Edison's might be worth.

Re: 1C Edison
The Edison cylinder machine is not an Amberola 30. It is either an X or a DX. You got a good deal on these machines.
