There's no such thing as a dumb question or a bad DD machine. A good stylus and a good 5100 series record is as good as it gets.

Re: Edison online catalogs?
My copy of Frow's Disc book came in today. Thanks for the heads up on this. I have to say it is bigger than I expected. It has been a good read so far and worth buying to learn about the various models. Great info on the machines and the original pricing and how it changed was a cool bonus. Also, for some, how well they sold or didn't sell.
Sometimes there are gaps that kinda surprise me. I was hoping for a definitive grill cloth color from factory records. No such luck. A rarity vs collectibility guide like you'd get with a classic car guide. A bit more in depth "stuff" for each model. (Fran does a much better job with the minutia) I liked the blurb about the order going out to get rid of the lid lock in the C19 in the late 20s and if it was fully carried out. Mine is from 21 and that lock is there so the answer would be "no".
Now there just needs to be an update for the restorers out there.
Definitely worth buying for a newbie. Now if they would only reprint the cylinder version. Anyone have one in PDF?!

I too prefer a hard-copy book in my hand. You sound like you may be serious about learning about the history of early talking machines. If so, please consider the books offered in this thread:BwanaJoe wrote:Thanks! I am in the infant stages here so I'm not sure how deep I'll get but I at least want to learn about the Edison stuff since I've started with that. Maybe a nice table top machine next...
