Picked up a very nice Standard Model-A. The red horn fits in with all the other Holiday decorations my wife put out.

I've always had a soft spot for Standard A disk machine. DeeDee gave me one as a wedding gift nearly forty years ago. Thanks for the post and Merry Christmas! Jerry B.

Nice looking Model A Rich, you will love it, I have two of them one Red
and one in original condition which was Blue, both sound and run great.

I believe that the Standard Talking Machine Model A came with a Red horn. You can check The Complete Talking Machine page 189.

Beautiful machines and displays!

The Radiant Heater in the fireplace is a very nice touch!

Do you use it?

We have one in our living room fireplace and it works great (it is on right now)!

The Standard Model A was also available with the blue horn as original equipment. I have found that Standard model A's found with the original blue horn are less common than those with the red horn and the blue paint (versus the red paint on the original red horns) did not survive well on most. I have three original Standard model A's in the collection, one with blue horn and two with the red horn. Yours (Rich) is a very nice example of the red horn Standard model A. The later Standard model A's had the top mounted speed control as seen on Gene's model A with the blue horn. The later Standard model A's with the top mounted speed control are much more difficult to find than the earlier ones with the push-pull-speed-dial shaft concept typical of earlier Columbia disc Graphophones. I'm still looking for a nice example of the later Standard model A with the top mounted speed control.

Thanks Doug and Rich for all the info on Standard Model A's.
I've bought mine the red one from Tim Fabrizio and the Blue
from a guy in Ohio who was selling it for the original
owner. I like the looks of them, I think they are a classy
little machine.

The Humphrey #20 radiant heater is the original heater that was installed in the fireplace when the house was build in 1917 by my wife's grandfather. We do use it and it works great. It heats the house up very quickly. We also have the blueprints and the bill from the lawyer for his services. As you can see most all of our furnishings are antiques and the phonographs fit right in.
