The Proper Turntable

I have an Edison H-19 that I am restoring (I know that they are common but I love it)and as is expected, all the levers and whatnot are gold plated, except for the turntable. Is that supposed to be gold, as well? If not, would it hurt the value to swap it out so long as I retain the steel one? Because I feel like it will look better all matching.

That does sound odd. My C-19 and A-250 have gold rimmed turntables.

It seems odd to me, as well, however most of the pics of h19s in Google Images seem to have a steel turntable as well.

If you want the turntable to be gold you can paint it. For the paint I suggest the gold paint made by Valspar. It looks just like gold plating.

I will come clean, I already purchased a gold turntable. The listing advertised it as being for the H-19, and like I said, matching parts appeal to me. Perhaps I was just seeing yellow grunge on the pic in the listing, though... Thinking back to when I first cleaned the motor for my machine, I thought several parts were actually brass until I cleaned them and saw the steel beneath the dirt. Oh well, the most I'm out is $22 on this one...

The H-19 was always fitted with a gold-plated steel turntable, save perhaps for a very few late machines which would have had the oxidized furniture.

Well I believe that, because I have the Fleur-di-lise grille (amazingly, it was intact when I got the machine save for a tiny chip), that mine can't be that late. Is that an accurate assessment?

Yes: the first style grille was superseded in late 1922.

Yes. When I said "late" I was referring to 1926 or 1927.
