FOR SALE: Edison 24 minute Long Play - INQUIRE

Post by perkey33 »

I have an single Long Play - number 10005 that I would like to sell. I don't know the playing condition, but I would guess based on visual condition that this might be better as a display piece. The side with Iolanthe and The Bohemian Girl is missing a small piece of the paper label in the 5 O'clock position. There are no chips or apparent scratches that I can see. Open to reasonable offers and or trade.

How about a ballpark idea for those of us who have never owned one of these, or seen one for sale?

I really don't know. I'm hoping to get input from the experts at this forum to give an honest opinion.

I agree, does anyone out there know a value for this type of record? I would be curious to know myself.

I just wanted to have a nice example of a "neat" record, so happily paid $100 to get a perfect, obviously unplayed 10" Edison LP in its original envelope. I would not want to pay more than that, now that EBAY has such "rarities" monthly.

I later paid $350 for all of the Edison LPs (minus the LP Sample I didn't know about) in apparently playable condition - they don't have any obvious stripped grooves or edge flakes, but they have no original sleeves. Ebay shows us that the once super-rare is not quite so hard to find.

I've seen them on ebay for anywhere from 50 or 60 to a hundred bucks, depending on titles and condition... I've also seen them cheaper when bought as a group. I also saw a set of all of them (about a dozen, more or less) with an oak c-150 equipped for both standard and LP, with both reproducers, at an auction about four years ago in PA that all together sold for about 200... not that that means anything, aside from the regret I'm still feeling about not buying it.
