The Edison School model based on the Opera is very top heavy. The mechanism is very heavy and sits on a skinny stand with little wheels. It's definitely not a practical machine to move about. Jerry

Not to mention the record boxes are like cardboard shoe boxes... . Not much weight there. Very top heavy.

Even when Edison contemplated a Schoolhouse DD machine (and apparently built a prototype in 1922), they didn't provide it with anything better than castors.

Perhaps they assumed that the kids would come to the Phonograph, instead of vice versa....

I'd like to know more about this prototype. Bill, do you know where I might find documentation of it, other than the reference that Frow states on pg. 66 of "The Edison Disc Phonograph and the Diamond Discs"?

Even when Edison contemplated a Schoolhouse DD machine (and apparently built a prototype in 1922), they didn't provide it with anything better than castors.

Hi Bill, I have the same issue, with the same picture. The picture is of a prototype B-250 with the attachment. If there ever was a Chippendale version, I've yet to find any information of it - other than the small reference to it that Frow makes of the "almost appearance" [sic] of the School Model prototype in June 1922, on pg. 66.

The exact same picture (on the first page of this post), and a similar question regarding it, was posted on the "Antique Phonograph Enthusiasts" Facebook wall. Personally, I believe both posts must be by the same person. I've asked him here, and there, where the ad originated, and for more information regarding it, but the OP has not been forthcoming with any additional information about it - here or there. At this point, his actions make me a little curious as to his intentions.

I would really like to have the opportunity to examine this machine personally, if possible, and determine what it really is, but I haven't been given that opportunity - and neither has the OP responded to my request for additional information. At this point, I have to assume this is nothing more than a tease (or something of the sort).

To be clear, I'm not trying to be disrespectful to the OP, or anyone else, and I hope he can furnish us with more information at some point, or at least respond to this topic post.

After all; he originally posted this...and essentially the same post with his question on Facebook.

I can tell you unequivocally that my intentions were plainly stated in my original post, once again the picture was from an ad I saw and after looking in the Frow DD book the authenticity of this item became very suspicious. I have no idea who posted this information on the Facebook site you mentioned but it was not me, I'm not on Facebook.

Also I find it very curious that you have contacted me because no messages have shown up in either this forum or my email from you. One person did ask me about the picture in an email and I gave him the same information that was posted because that is all I know about the attachment. Just like others, I'm very curious if this is a genuine attachment made wholly by the Edison company. Hopefully this will clear up my intentions!

I found an ad with same picture in it recently, and contacted the owner with a request for more photos. The response was that it is in storage and there are no more photos available. Seems a bit cod to me, but I'll continue sturgeon for more info.

Thank you for clearing up your intentions for me, I am regretfully mistaken on my assertion that you posted an identical question on Facebook.

I beg your pardon, really, I meant no disrespect. I meant only to get a response, since I haven't seen you post any responses after your initial post; specifically to my questions as to where the ad was posted and if your reference as a "C-190" was a typo.

I never attempted to contact you, I only posted my questions here, in this thread.

I seek only education, and try to use the Talking Machine Forum as a true discussion board. Obviously, sometimes I fail at encouraging people to participate here in an open discussion.

That being said, I think that the discussion, overall, has been informative, and I hope it will continue.

Ahh, sorry for the confusion, I thought we were still talking about the external horned B-250 prototype on pg.46.
