Semi-O/T—Vintage Photographs

Here are a few images that I found on the net of Edison stores. Hopefully these are in the public domain and I'm not breaking any laws. The first is in my home town of Minneapolis. I zoomed in to read the address and went there but the building is long gone and replaced by another. (Edit, I didn't actually think they were still selling phonographs! But it would be interesting to see the same storefront and building)
I like the second because it shows a pretty complete Edison lineup of the most popular machines.

This was posted in this thread the last time around (I forget who the original poster was—please take credit for your contribution), but since Rocky was asking about having an enlargement of it that he could print, I had a go at seeing what I could do with it in Photoshop.

I did a test print of the linked PNG, and it looks quite good on matte photo paper, despite being blown up from a digital image.

Edit: Please note that because the linked image is as large as it is, you probably would want to right-click on the link, and select ‘Save Link As...’ from the context menu which appears when you right-click the link, rather than viewing it. Generally this is an easier way to save linked images.

I am guilty of posting it originally. In a fewdays, when I have reliable Internet access, I'll repost some and post others. Looking forward to Orlando on Friday! John M

While I was kidding about the elephant images, I did decide that we could use a few more images of Edison in the stock avatar gallery (under ‘people’), so I made these two images:

However, I do not think I’m fully satisfied with how they look when reduced to avatar size (the shape of the oval, particularly at the top), so I may redo them. The Alma Gluck image looks better (avatar-sized).

Hopefully you enjoy these, regardless of my Photoshop perfectionism.

Here's a scan of an original photo of Mr. Edison that I own. It appears to be an A-250 machine. I think he is trying to make his record selections that meet up with his approval.
