Here are a few images that I found on the net of Edison stores. Hopefully these are in the public domain and I'm not breaking any laws. The first is in my home town of Minneapolis. I zoomed in to read the address and went there but the building is long gone and replaced by another. (Edit, I didn't actually think they were still selling phonographs! But it would be interesting to see the same storefront and building)
I like the second because it shows a pretty complete Edison lineup of the most popular machines.

(Click on the image or this link for an 7.98" x 10" [300 DPI—8.2 MB] PNG of it)

I did a test print of the linked PNG, and it looks quite good on matte photo paper, despite being blown up from a digital image.

Edit: Please note that because the linked image is as large as it is, you probably would want to right-click on the link, and select ‘Save Link As...’ from the context menu which appears when you right-click the link, rather than viewing it. Generally this is an easier way to save linked images.

I am guilty of posting it originally. In a fewdays, when I have reliable Internet access, I'll repost some and post others. Looking forward to Orlando on Friday! John M

Folks,

I managed to find one from the first forum that I very much wanted to keep:

Read the fascinating story of Mr. William Grimshaw here on the BBC's page and here on the The Grimshaw Family page.

John

I decided last night to cut out this image to give to someone as an avatar, and figured that I may as well post the full-size image of it here:

We had a distinct lack of Nikola Tesla—I’ll try to get some elephant images in here later. ;)

While I was kidding about the elephant images, I did decide that we could use a few more images of Edison in the stock avatar gallery (under ‘people’), so I made these two images:

However, I do not think I’m fully satisfied with how they look when reduced to avatar size (the shape of the oval, particularly at the top), so I may redo them. The Alma Gluck image looks better (avatar-sized).

Hopefully you enjoy these, regardless of my Photoshop perfectionism.

I think they look much better now.

Here’s another image of Edison, for which I can take absolutely no credit. The source is the U.S. National Portrait Gallery, although I did crop a 1:1 version of the stock avatar gallery (once again under ‘people’).

Enjoy.

In honor of Paul’s birthday, I wanted to add a few more Edison images both to this thread and to our stock avatar gallery.

So for your enjoyment, here are 3 more images. The original is taken from the United States Library of Congress's Prints and Photographs Division under the digital ID cph.3b44155.

Here is yet another image that I forgot to re-post; I believe that the original was posted by John.

Scott,

It appears busines must have been very good for Mr. T.C.Hough. His delivery "truck" is a Cadillac. :D

Here's a scan of an original photo of Mr. Edison that I own. It appears to be an A-250 machine. I think he is trying to make his record selections that meet up with his approval.

Enjoy,
