The second photo of the machine shows the HMV needle drawer on the side, so it could be a later Columbia (post merger with HMV) made in the 30s or 40s.

Thank you. It may look like there is a European version, found an equal on the Internet in Romania, it seems, this was much nicer than mine.

Checked on the odd chance that it might be, but there is no 210 listed in Baumbach's Columbia Phonograph Companion Volume II (which covers disc machines).

The needle drawer and possibly the case lock are the only components I recognise as of HMV/EMI origin, and the machine bears no resemblance to any pre-EMI Columbia portable I have seen.

The existence of another example pictured on the Internet suggests that the Model 210 did go into production. The question is, where?

I've been in contact with a friend who has done a great deal of in-depth research into the Corporate history of Columbia and it's various branches worldwide. To cut a very long and complicated story short, he has identified this as an Italian machine from the mid-thirties at the earliest. He is of the opinion that the soundbox may not be the original, but an later replacement.

I am sure I speak for many collectors when I hope that your friend will be able to publish his research in due course. There is plenty of information available about HMV but very little about their most illustrious competitor.
