The times ive heated and rebent they broke,i even tried not heating and they still broke.but you might have better luck.springs are like humans some can take a good bending and some snap.

gramophone78 wrote:If you have bent the annealed ends of the spring the opposite way....you may now have weaken (cause a crease) them by bending back.

Therefore, you may have the motor up and running....however, the springs may break very soon after as the highest force is on these ends.
As previously mentioned.... ;).

Bend them back while red hot. You may need some help holding the torch while bending.

I rebent them while cold, just wound it and let it out several times. Speed is calibrated. Playing a record now. Hopefully, they will continue to hold up!

Did you ever figure out why they were all bent up in the first place? Was it a case of switched around spring barrels or what?

PS: Congratulations on getting it done yourself!

Yes, it was the barrels being flipped, and thanks for the congrats. Having (eventually) conquered the mighty four-spring VV 8-12 as a first shot at springs in general, I feel much better about going after the H-19 and the VV 2-55.

Congratulations on your successful repair. Be careful with the H-19. Edison springs in general are quite a bit tougher than Victor springs. I don't want to scare you, just make sure you concentrate fully and don't let go.

Good luck!
