Columbia Floating Reproducers - New or Repro?

Post by Victrolacollector »

With so many of those Columbia Floating reproducers out there, How does one knows know if the reproducer is an original or reproduction?

Are there any markings?

Hard to tell: Columbia reproducers did not have serial numbers like Edison or Victor. There is a thread featuring one that had information stamped on the underside, but I do not know how common that was.

In general, one might be able to judge by the quality of the casting: if the lettering on the top seems "off", it may be a repro .....
