Re: How Long Will Wood Last?

Post by Neophone »

Folks,

With a modicum of care and low humidity, I think, wood can last almost indefinitely. Wood has been found in tombs in Egypt if I recall. As Jerry points out-I think future collectors will run out of records before they run out of machines.

I believe I once read someplace of a difference between the wood used today in construction and furniture making and the wood used historically. The wood used today is farmed it is young wood whereas years ago it was mostly old growth wood. I think old growth wood is in general stronger and heartier than the younger wood of today. There is now a huge industry recycling old timber, including, believe it or not, tree trunks that sunk in rivers and lakes during nineteenth century logging.

Regards,
John
