I'm not wild about Sessions clocks because they sometimes have brass plated steel movements in them. But this is nice looking.

I think this same clock has been around the block a few times. You might do a search but the bottom line is "buyer beware". Jerry

I was recently asked about another similar clock on a Syracuse Craiglist. There seems to be a spate of these clocks popping up here in upstate New York. All the faces I've seen so far are fake. Beautifully done, and convincingly aged, but being portrayed as something they're not.

It is kind of odd that there isn't more wear around the winding hole. Most of those store clocks seem to have had people that weren't watching what they were doing with the winding key. I had kind of wondered about these things as well since they do seem to turn up fairly often. It would be a nice clock, for $250. I'm not wild about Sessions though, they need to fake one in a Seth Thomas case. Ha!

Re: Edison Clock Gold Moulded Records.
Months ago I had corresponded with a gentleman selling an Edison clock as well as some round (phonograph advertising) wall clocks that he indicated had been in his collection a long time and that he had decided to sell. The prices for the clocks he had for sale seemed high and the cabinets and works looked a bit too clean to me (he indicated that he had the works cleaned, though). This is one that he offered to sell: http://syracuse.craigslist.org/atq/4820422910.html. It's now at $995. He indicated that he also had an Edison advertising 'Regulator' wall clock that would be a lot more money. He sent me pictures of that and I looked around a bit on the net to do some price comparison and found one that sold at John Fontaine's auction in Pittsfield in November 2014 for only $400 here: http://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/318 ... -regulator and that one appeared to be original condition - or at least looking in similar condition as the one he was offering me for a whole lot more money. He told me he could offer a better deal if I bought all of the phonograph advertising clocks (Victor, Columbia, Edison) for one money. I decided it was best to move on and thanked him for his time. I'm familiar with many aspects of early phonographs and records but clocks I am fairly clueless as to originality. George's post helped to confirm that I made a good decision.

It looks like Victor has gotten involved as well! I found this just on a simple internet search, but the auction website doesn't indicate if they think it's new or old. Most of the auction houses have gotten away from sticking their necks out on anything like that though.
Some of this stuff really does need to be looked at in person, that's for sure. I saw one of those Gold Moulded clocks a long time ago but it was a gallery clock and was round with a simple escape wheel like an alarm clock would have. But it was in a large collection and I really didn't ask about it.

Re: Edison Clock Gold Moulded Records.
There are some nicely done "old, original clocks" with fantasy dials that I have seen at shows. They are not being sold as original advertising pieces by the seller and he is very honest in his representation of them to buyers. However, once they are out of his hands, then who knows how another seller/scam artist would describe them... So, without inspecting them in person, I would steer clear of high priced clocks. The clock guy/seller who has made some sells them for the price of an antique clock without the face... $200-500 depending on the size and make of the clock. Other clock dealers may have seen these and jumped on the bandwagon, since an advertising clock is only differentiated by the design painted on the back of the glass or printed on the face of the dial... So, unless the clock is what you want, or you want a decoration for your collection and the price is in line for an antique plain clock of that brand or style, don't buy it.

The Pendulum bob on this "Victor" clock looks identical to the bob in the "Edison" clock at the top of the thread...

That's because they're both Sessions clocks. There is nothing particularly bogus about the clocks, just the dial papers. There was a bunch of these on eBay sometime ago. Looked great but too good, and too many in identical condition to be true.
