Mainspring transfer?

Post by Tpapp54321 »

I think that in my Victor L-door model C one of the mainsprings is detached or broken but I have 2 springs from a Columbia Viva-Tonal 650 that are in good shape, could I replace the broken spring in my Victor with the one from the Columbia?

If the width, thickness & length are the same, AND the spring ends attach by the same method, I can't see why not. However, take the broken spring out of the Victor and see what really happened. Most springs can be repaired. If you do use the Columbia spring/s, I suggest you use both of them for balanced performance between the two.

I totally agree with Jerry, but I think you will find that the Viva-Tonal springs are longer and thicker than the Victor springs. Mainspring strength increases exponentially with thickness. A stronger mainspring will increase wear.
