Indoctrinating the Next Generation

Well, my oldest daughter is about to turn 6 this week, and she has reached the "American Girl doll" phase that infects all middle class little girls. Not a total loss....I found a way to indoctrinate her into the world of phonographs:

Not a bad little toy. Comes with three records that play "Take Me Out to the Ballgame," "Maple Leaf Rag," and "You're a Grand Old Flag." Looks more convincing than most crappo-phones out there.

So these are real records, I'm impressed! I always thought it was just like a music box that would make some sounds. That should get her interested in the right direction. :D

Well, not quite "real" records. The records have different patterns on the underside that hold down a different series of buttons, which than triggers an electronic recording of the song while the record turns.

I gave my granddaughter one for Christmas and she loves it. She is eight and into the dolls also. Every time I go to their house she plays it for me. I think it's time to upgrade her to a real phonograph and I have one in mind.

I wish that had been available when my daughter was in her American Girl stage. ;)

She's turning 30 in a couple of weeks so we're well past those days. On the other hand, she requested a phonograph for her apartment so I gave her and her husband a Gem B and some records.

Oh phooey! I was going to add this to my own collection! :( Still a nice toy, it's the perfect gift for her! :D
