Well, that settles it - - I need a therapist! :)

Beautiful machine and a great story - - what are the chances?

(Hearts and Flowers by the Peerless Orchestra was one of the first 8 cylinder records I bought when I turned 14. I still remember it note-for-note!)

The ICS books are not common. I've found lots of ICS cylinders and several of the ICS Edison Standards over the years but not a single book. My favorite of the cylinders pictured would be Model Minstrels. Hope that you post a video of it playing on your channel sometime. Good find, Bill.

I doubt you will have any mainspring issues except maybe a thump. I have owned at least 75 standards and I have never had to replace a mainspring or even lubricate for that matter. The ICS machines are usually in very nice condition because they were hardly ever used and were taken good care of at whatever institution they resided. The extras that came with it is very nice! Congratulations on your fortune!

Alas, I'm a bit late for that: I'll post some videos when I get everything finished... :D

PS: I noticed the C reproducer has a mica diaphragm: when exactly did Edison switch over to metal - and which do you think has the better sound?

Bill,

Here's what I found on a quick survey of the Edison "C" reproducer I have on-hand:

# 300387 - copper. Note: serial number stamped out near the flat rim.

# 428737 - copper

# 557049 - Mica

# 894139 - copper

None of these look like they've ever had the diaphragm ring touched... :monkey:
