I'm a bit different than the usual crowd. I tend to prefer consoles; case in point, my Edisonic Beethoven. That Brunswick appears to be a Madrid. And it looks quite handsome in my opinion. I've never seen a Madrid in person, only in books like the great Wakeman Brunswick history. I was just looking through that book and I always thought it didn't have many pics of the phonographs, but I never scrolled to the back of that book. There is a massive compendium of Brunswick advertisements showing many or all of the models. For example, I never knew that my Brunswick Cortez was later renamed the Brunswick P-14 which was electronic and had tubes.
Brunswick really didn't waste any cabinets, that's for sure. I've also seen electric cabinets made into spring wound machines and they put little metal covers over switch holes and the like. I know of one near me that is a nice big machine, but it's usually an all electric machine, but was changed over to a spring wound model with a horn and I've never seen any advertising showing it. There is one out in Annapolis on craigslist that's pretty close to the one I'm talking about. It's a very nice machine too for $300 I think.
The grille and the spruce horn on that Hampton console looks surprisingly like my Cortez. I wonder if that Hampton horn is as large as the Cortez horn. If it was, the sound would equal the shockingly powerful sound of a Cortez!
Are we sure that Annapolis add is legit? Those photos look like they were taken off this site. I seem to recall member barnettrp having the same Brunswick.
I was wondering that, too, and I'd seen those photos here. Bob does live down that way though so it may well be legit. I'd sure love to own that machine!
Hey guys! Yes, it's mine, and yes, it's for sale! I'm near Annapolis. This Brunswick has been listed for quite awhile. Walt Sommers rebuilt the soundbox, and everything works fine. Anyone interested, I'd take less!
