Cliff,

Just had an idea about the knobs: if you have a stud finder ( good-old pivoting-magnet type ), this should be able to detect the presence of a steel screw inside that knob...

Cliff, I believe the original knobs were wood. They are on the Style 35 and 135 that I have. Here's a picture I found on the net

Mr Cliff, Just found my issue of "In The Groove" from July 2002, on the cover is that model Brunswick from the Sanfilippo collection. I don't know if that collection has a site where you can view machines---it looks like the knobs are wood. I have a --- Brunswick, not that model with wood knobs and a really neat courtesy light in the record compartment that swivels out to view records---how effective? I posted a picture of it with pictures of the Emerson phonograph collection. ---Enjoy

Just looked at Brad Felcher's YouTube video of the Sanfilippo estate. Amazing collection of phonographs with a dazzling example of this machine at about 9:34. Thanks!

Finally got this tone arm yesterday after a 10 day layover in Chicago. Guess the weather there was really wreaking havoc with the mail. The reproducer was frozen solid on the tone arm, the tone arm had a very rough swivel at the base, the gaskets were shot in the lateral reproducer, but the Edison reproducer/stylus was in good condition. Did manage to successfully break loose the stuck reproducer without breaking anything, very happy about that! Took apart the tone arm from the base and cleaned out the 'rust' (gotta love that pot metal) and smoothed up the track, put a daub of grease on the little pivot point, adjusted the pivot point screw, and it swivels very smoothly now. Replaced the gaskets in the reproducer, put it all back together and it works great!

WHEW!

One last question. I cannot find anything on this phonograph that would identify the model number or the serial number. The only thing I can find is the number 23 stamped into the wood of the cabinet, though I don't think that has anything to do with production info, just a number the cabinet maker used. Is there some place on this machine I could find a serial number?

Thanks! Cliff
