Here is a video of the reassembled machine playing on Youtube:

Enjoy!
The label shows the colored flag logo so I'm thinking it had to have been made c.1923. I do not think the motor was made by Columbia, maybe a motor they contracted somebody to build..??

I have the same problem (i.e., erratic/inconstant speed) on a Victor Monarch.
What can I do for approaching this problem without fear???

Is a good idea use WD-40 lube (it's very easy to find here in Italy) for grease the gears?

No. It evaporates quickly and it's too fluid in any case. That's preminently an unlocker/deoxidiser, not a lubricating oil/grease. It also smells terribly, which has to be taken in consideration when dealing with households.
You can use it to quickly unblock stuck parts and see if it improves something in some way. But then you have to disassemble, clean, lubricate and reassemble in any case, or your "fix" will last few days only.

According to Baumbach & Lackey, the Model 140 (which this appears to be) was introduced in 1924.CDBPDX wrote:Here is a video of the reassembled machine playing on Youtube:
